Two Great Vidcasts

Zero Punctuation:
A British video game journalist who critiques a new game every Wednesday.
Talks quite fast and is accompanied with epic animations.
Did I mention that he’s hilariously harsh

Portal FTW!

Hak5:
“Hak5 isn’t your typical tech show. We take on hacking in the old-school sense, covering everything from network security, open source and forensics, to DIY modding and the homebrew scene. Then we wrap it all up with a healthy dose of cocktails and geek comedy. Damn the warranties, it’s time to Trust your Technolust.”

Trust your technolust.

Ubuntu…Yum

Yesterday, I decided to install ubuntu again, so I freed up 20Gb and gave 10Gb to Wubi.

Ubuntu is quite delicious, I would go as far to say that I like it just as much as Vista (*GASP* *HORROR* Yes, vista is brilliant, try it for yourself before knocking it).

Every thing is customizable from the the task bar to the log-in screen to the animations that windows use. Desktop cube < Desktop wall but I like draging my windows around the cube so... Using desktop cube. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, check out Compiz fusion.

Try linux today! I’m using Wubi, which takes some of your harddrive (in my case 10G) and Gives it to Linux, very easy install and it creates a dual boot for you!

To be honest it’s quite like a windows meets mac mashup, with features like xpose and prompts very much like mac (force quit) and the Top task bar.

Linux is really good but until i’m developing in C/++/# I think I’ll stick with vista as my main OS :P

"Must Remember to keep posting!"

Well I’ve just taken a look at the my statcounter results and WOW, not posting has a dramatic affect on the viewers, I had 69 new Unique visitors in July and 114 Returning ones but in August where I only made 1 post it went down to 38 new Unique visitors and 48 returning… Less than half!!!

Gotta remeber to keep this blog alive

Oh and here’s the graph i’m refering to:

Musagi, SFXR ~DrPetter

Musagi and Sfxr have to be the best freeware retro music mixer/sound effect generators out there, these apps are simple and to the point, yet they are feature packed!

Musagi is a music synthesiser with tons of options to customise your instruments etc.
I’ve still yet to learn the art of composing kick-ass retro music though…

SFXR is a sound effects generator designed for retro games, you can tell it to randomly generate sounds using preset parameters or you create your own sfx yourself!

Ps. New Banner :P

Update

Wow, it’s been almost a month since i’ve posted…but i’ve actually made alot of progess since then…
I’ve re-re-implemented movement and shooting for the FINAL time! Shooting now works (There’s a bit of lag when you reload) and you can manually/automatically reload, movement is really slick now (No more accerlerating bs) but there’s still a bug where you stick to walls…
Also, I’ve started animating! It’s not too hard with flash’s motion tween tool to help, but I still need to draw the actual people.
Lots of bug squashing lies ahead of me and some fun drawing sessions too!

Contact me if you know where I can get free SWF hosting so I can post demos, or if you are interested in helping me with HellJump!

Folder Structure FINALLY!!!

I’ve FINALLY managed to make the engine work in folders like the testbed(check this out).
Had to “reverse engineer” it to find out what was wrong, turned I needed a “carrier” for the sprites, an inbetween class…
Well now i can finally concentrate on getting shooting done :P

Singapore!

Singapore has to be one of the best countries EVER. Period.

Ok so what if I haven’t been to many other countries…Ok maybe I’ve only been to 3 countries, but the way singapore is run and the atmosphere of it is amazing!

When we (2/3s of my school’s orchestra and I) first stepped out of the airport it was like walking into a sauna…with extra clothes.

The “resort” we stayed in was pretty good, and the food was nice but the indian stuff was too rich for me.

The shopping malls were much larger than the ones in NZ, I really see the ones in NZ before I judge…

We also went to the night safari, the songs of the sea (loved the fire effects) Plus a whole lot of other stuff the I can’t remember now.

We were supposed to play at vivo city twice and suntec city twice, but we couldn’t get a permit (What were we crazy terrorists?) so we played at suntec four times, which was a pain. I was also suprised to find a wiki article on it when I got back.

That reminds me, there was free Wi-Fi pretty much all over the city (really want a portable wi-fi device now!) and mobile services were dirt cheap.

I saw a really kick-ass halo model, and it was $187 I almost bought it, and there was some REALLY nice creative headphones, the Aurvana Live! and the Aurvana X-Fi. These Headphones were one of the only ones which really fit my ears, in fact I almost bought the Live one…

Singapore was a FANTASTIC trip and I’m definatly going to visit there again some other time…with LOTS more cash :) , Expect photos and a new post on helljump up within the week!

EDIT:Photos now UP
