Yep. Pong. In first person. Almost.

Yea. One day on exam leave I came up with this crazy concept of things in different dimensions. 2-D: up/down, in/out. Plus some other stuff. The I thought of what a modern day pong would be like, pong but HD played on a lush green field (I know it’s supposed to be a table-tennis sim). Yeap.
So I started to make a pong clone first and here it is:
Very bare bones but functional. I’ve already started to pull the x and z cordinates from the sprites and plugged them into papervision. Works…OK, looks really bad though.
I’m thinking of making a model of some grass and baking ambient occlusion1, BUT I’m not quite sure how to animate it with AO…
Gameplay wise, the player will progress through time from no backgrounds to mario style to say SNES-esque to Next-Gen2. To progress the player simply needs to beat the AI3. Oh and the players stays as a brick.
Really easy to setup.
Loads of useful functions.
Going to spend a month porting my code to use Flixel ![]()
also this:
Up/Down/Left/Right to move1
Well, no not shiny but redone!
The old ones were…Lackluster and bland to say the least, so I spent this morning redoing them using a 16-bit palette
I was going to post some random nonsense about sleeping ergonomically12 but this is much better!
How awesome would it be to sleep a total of two hours a day and feel rested? Very awesome, of course, but there is a catch. The more naps you have (and thus the less sleep you have total) the more rigorous you have to be regarding your nap times. You can’t miss a nap by more than a couple hours in the 2 and 3 “Everyman” methods, and you must have your naps within 30 minutes of their scheduled times for the Uberman method. If you miss a nap, the whole schedule is thrown off and you’ll feel tired for days.
Thankfully, when I can keep to one of these schedules, I’m able to ignore my body’s abnormal internal clock and just stay awake all day and all night with minor 20-minute interruptions.
Wow. Just Wow. I think I might try that over a holiday
It’s only about 1/3 done but what the heck right?
Yet another delay?
Unfortunately so.
I have to focus on some other things (In my life) that take precedent over my hobbies, so unfortunately I’ll only be able to start putting new features into Space Defenders after November.
I will still be making blog posts but they’ll be more oriented towards what I find on the interwebs rather than what I’m doing (Studying)
So, Stay tuned as always!
